    This is the video submission for Information-age video awards in the Data Centre category. Jim Smith, CTO, discusses how Digital Realty Trust led the way in developing BREEAM Data Centre standard.

    One of the greatest environmental impacts of a data centre is the building itself, especially if it is scratch built to purpose.

    Digital Realty Trust has helped to develop the British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) for data centres. Similar standards exist for schools, residences and even prisons, but this is the first such certification for buildings.

    The BREEAM standard can now be applied to any new data centre being built to ensure the full environment impact of the building is taken into account.
